POLICIES

We have implemented the following rules and guidelines to ensure every dog has the best
possible experience during their stay. The safety of the dogs in our care is our top priority.

FIRST THINGS FIRST
We do not use any equipment or handling methods that cause emotional or physical pain to the dogs in our care. These include, but are not limited to; any type of verbal or physical punishment (ie. alpha rolls, leash jerks, muzzle holding, isolation, hitting, yelling, spray bottles, shake cans, etc.) We are adamantly opposed to the use any aversive equipment (ie. chain martingales, choke, prong, shock, citronella and e-collars).
If you currently use, or plan on using, any of the equipment or methods we've listed, we are not the right fit for you. However, if you're interested in finding a different way, please start here and let's talk.

BEHAVIOUR
Campers must be well socialized. We are not able to care for reactive dogs or dogs who suffer from severe separation anxiety.

DAYCAMP
Before enrolling in daycamp, dogs must participate in an Assessment Visit. This gives us time to get to know your dog and observe their behaviour in a controlled setting. It also gives your dog time to get to know us. Please schedule an assessment visit in advance as we have limited space available.
Reservations cancelled fewer than 24 hours in advance, and "no shows",  will be subject to the full daycamp fee.

SLEEPAWAY CAMP
Our 5 suite dog hotel is located right next to our main house. Guest dogs sleep in their own temperature controlled, fully monitored private suite. We also host a limited number of cat-friendly dogs in our home. Dogs sleep in our room on their own comfy bed, or in a crate if they prefer.
Dogs must participate in an Assessment Visit prior to their first overnight stay. This gives us time to get to know your dog and observe their behaviour in a controlled setting. It also gives your dog time to get to know us.
Please schedule an assessment visit in advance as we have limited space available.
A non-refundable deposit in the amount of 20% is required to secure all bookings of 2 nights or more.

AGE
The minimum age requirement at Camp Yellow Dog is 16 weeks to attend daycamp or stay overnight (please read our vaccination requirements below).

SEX
Dogs 8 months of age and over must be spayed or neutered. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis. Please contact us directly. We can not care for females who are in heat. As of February 1st, 2021 we are not currently enrolling unaltered dogs over 8 months of age.

VACCINATIONS
All dogs must either be titer tested or have up-to-date vaccinations for the following:
Rabies
Distemper
Parvovirus
Bordetella
For more information on titer testing please click here
For more information on vaccinations please click here

HEALTH
All dogs must be in good health and free from any condition which could jeopardize the health of our other Campers. If a dog has recently been sick with a contagious illness, or undergone surgery, either written clearance from a veterinarian or a 14-day waiting period must be completed before their stay. In order to ensure optimal care please keep us advised of your current information regarding your pet's health and your emergency contact numbers.

SAFETY
Please keep your dog(s) on leash while on our property until we advise otherwise. Dogs visiting Camp Yellow Dog must wear a harness with name tag. To understand why we require harnesses, please click here.
If you do not have a harness we can provide one for your dog's Assessment Visit. If your dog comes for boarding and does not have a harness we will use one of our own and you will be charged $3/day (to a maximum of $25 per stay for boarding dogs). Harness rentals for daycamp dogs is $3 day. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis. Please contact us to discuss an alternate arrangement.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF PROCEDURES
If you are going to be early or late for your scheduled drop off or pick up time please send a text to 250-533-9448.
Please do your best to keep your dog calm and under control during pick up and drop off and be mindful of our neighbours when coming to and from Camp. The speed limit on Mt. Sicker Road is 50km.
When you arrive at Camp for drop off remain in your vehicle with your dog(s) until either Colin or I give the go ahead to exit. All dogs must be leashed before entering the property.
When picking up your dog please remain in your vehicle until we bring your dog(s) to you. This helps avoid too much excitement.
If you are parked at the gate and we don't see you, or we're gathering the other dogs, please give us a few minutes. We try to be as efficient as possible so you aren't kept waiting, but dogs don't always understand (or care about) human timelines!
If you're waiting more than 5 minutes and we haven't seen you, please text 250-533-9448. Texts typically take a few minutes to come through. We appreciate your patience.
Animals are the bridge between us and the beauty of all that is natural. They show us what's missing in our lives, and how to love
ourselves more completely and unconditionally. They connect us back to who we are, and to the purpose of why we're here. - Trisha McCagh
